Indonesian President, Joko Widodo, has discussed a range of post-covid travel initiatives with Australian Prime Minister, Scott Morrison, while meeting on the sidelines of the G20 leaders summit held in Rome last weekend.
Plans include the establishment of a vaccinated travel lane between the two countries ensuring that fully vaccinated travellers will be able to arrive and depart without the need for quarantine.
This is the first time the Indonesian Government has considered quarantine free travel within it’s borders.
Presently, travellers from countries which already have a travel arrangement with Indonesia are required to undergo a five day quarantine period.
Jokowi also proposed reciprocal recognition of Indonesian and Australian vaccination certificates.
Although a firm starting date has yet to be set, it is understood the proposed travel lane will come into effect early in the new year.
Qantas and Jetstar have already bought forward their flight schedules to Bali from Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane to early February after originally scheduling flights beginning from late March.
Almost one in four tourists to Bali come from Australia, making it central to Indonesia’s post-covid economic recovery.
