Indonesian authorities have admitted that large numbers of international tourists are reluctant to travel to Bali because of the country’s quarantine policy.
‘The head of Bali’s Tour Guide Association, I Nyoman Nuarta, confirmed that despite having 300,000 potential visitors, most have decided to cancel their trip due to the 8-day quarantine requirement.
“With this policy, visitors who would normally stay less than a week have no opportunity to enjoy their vacation on the island,” he said.
Late last week Nuarta called on the government to adopt a policy that meets market demand, noting that 90% of tourism workers on the island are already fully vaccinated.
And with only days remaining until the island reopens it’s international airport, Indonesia’s Tourism Minister, Santiago Uno, acting on a directive from President Joko Widodo, has announced a reduction of the quarantine period from eight days to five.
‘The Minister says the decision, which has the backing of the Health Ministry, is based on the latest scientific data which suggests the incubation period for the Delta variant is only 3-4 days.
