The much-vaunted plan to reopen Bali to International tourists appears to have been scuttled once again, due to a surge of new cases in the neighbouring island of Java.
Case numbers in Java are presently being reported at around 14,000 a day, although the real number could be much higher.
Despite claiming to have reached it’s targetof vaccinating 70% of the population, the number of new cases in Bali is also believed to have increased four- fold in the past month, albeit from a low base of around 50 cases a day.
To date, people arriving in Bali from Java have not been required to be fully vaccinated, although they do need to show a negative test result, taken no more than three days prior to travel.
The spread of the highly contagious Delta variant has been blamed for the latest uptick in case numbers. It is not known at this stage when the island of Bali will be ready tp make her much anticipated reopening, with authorities only prepared to say they will wait until daily case numbers come down significantly, before deciding when to proceed…
